Ehrlichiosis treatment

Sumit Virmani Dear vets,

1. Can Berenil RTU (Intervet) be used in dogs with ehrlichiosis?? The literature doesn't say anything about this.

2. Is Imidocarb (Imizol) being marketed in India? If yes, by which company?

3. Apart from doxycycline, what other drug may be used to effectively treat ehrlichiosis in canine patients??

    Ajitesh Kumar actually microdox (i.e micronized doxycycline) works very well for ehrlichiosis. dose 4mg /kg bw dd for 10 days. imidocarb is not available in india.

    Sumit Virmani Any particular brand/company, you would suggest, Dr. Ajitesh? I understand it has to be a preparation for human use?

    imidocarp dipropionate is higly effective in ehrilichiosis and has lower relapse rate than tetracyclines. singledose @ 5mg/kg.not avl in India.
    
    doxy 5-10mg/kg po bid 10-21 days ,may have vomiting but lower relapses.
    chloramphenicol 15-25mg po tid 14-21 days, for puppies below 5months is better than tetracyclines in eliminating infections.
    so appart from doxy u can use chloramphenicol also but chloramphenicol is used in puppies <5 months. oxytetracycline also can be used @ 22mg/kg po tid 14-21 days. sometimes it may take long time to cure.

    Swarupmay Majumdar doxyclcline is availble in many brands : DOXYVET100mg ( vet), MIcrodox 100mg, DOXY-1(human) and so many.
    nowadays vet preparations are availble.
