Hypoprotenemia leading to ascites

Swarupmay Majumdar ‎4yrs old M golden retriever : H/o- not taking any food atall 2 days and sudden appeareance of belly enlargement .vaccination,dewroming uptodate. PE finding: fluid thrill of abdomen, no dyspnea, no limb swelling. temp,HR,RR pulse with in normal range. No H/O vomiting,loose motion,anuria or dysuria or bleeding.
Blood report: Hb 11,TLC 8600,PLATELLET 1.37L,BUN 11,CREA 0.7,AST 48,ALT 41,TP 5.
TDx: hypoprotenemia leading to ascites .
suggestions please.

    • Ashwin Nambiar A TP of 5 doesnt seem to be that low..how about albumin? Doc in such cases do you send a sample of the abdominal effusion for a routine analysis?

    • Swarupmay Majumdar ok, I have put him on lasilactone, Verol, envas, Ventriliv. want to wait for 1 day before agreesive therapy as I found he is having swellings but is able to do everything normally.

    • Ashwin Nambiar Dr. do you send out abd.effusion samples for routine analysis? it can give a good idea about the cause of the distension - heart, liver, low protein etc..
