Spaying

Anitha Basker Hi can anyone tell me how to perform spaying in dogs at field level? Imagine a place where there are no qualified assistants or even vets to consult and get tips. Please give details of anesthesia, restraint, etc.

since I have no space to do operations in clinic, most of ABC operations I do at owners place on floor on news papers. usually I manage without any assitance of a vet. any new person can hlp me in restraining and during operations. we use Ketamin, xylazine , diazepum combination for the whole process , sometimes even propofol but no Thiopentone. atropine as usual used in small dose. other operational procedure are same , but preferably do a flank incision than midline. 99% cases are evenless as we take all sterilized materials and dispose off everything. In spaying we always see that IV drip line is fixeed. pre operative antibiotics and NSAIDs are always used during operations. we charge little more for such operations. But we have not done any spaying outdoors

    • Gautam Unny i would serioiusly not try a spaying, in the field or without assistance. its a serious procedure that must be done in sterile conditions and with care. pl avoid it if possible.
