Anesthetics- Xylazine

Nassem N. Naimi We know that we shouldnt give a double dose Xylazine for the Anesthetized animal (repeat the dose) but what will happened if a female cat got double dose within 45 min (the cat was anesthetized on the second xylazine injection)!!!

      02 August at 09:03 · ·
    • Fatima Khalaf yes we should not give second one cuz it may have heart block ... xylazine may cuz premature labor in the trimester ..
      02 August at 09:07 · ·
    • Fatima Khalaf are you thinking of doing surgery ?
      02 August at 09:12 · ·
    • Sp Singh what happened then ?????
      02 August at 09:17 · ·
    • Swarupmay Majumdar I think Xylazine as such is not a good choice in cat as a single thing, they show lots of excitements. So to control that if u need extra xylazine, it will never help. Use cocktails of drugs..like xylazine+ketamine+diazepum or propofol with ketamine

    • Premal Darji y nid xylazine double dose.or evn econd dose...u can mix it with ketamine...and give..

xylazine whn given 2nd dose..will only b used as maintainence,,sedation time is incresed but not level of sedation..

    • Swarupmay Majumdar ‎"operation sucessful..patient dies" ..maybe becoz of post operative complications like, sepsis, pain, bleeding, hypothermia,....
      02 August at 10:13 · ·
    • Nassem N. Naimi seems like hypothermia !!! according to history but I still feel bad !!!
      02 August at 10:14 · ·
    • Premal Darji sumtimes owner tries to feed the pet as he thinks pet is hungry..or gives water..that can cause aspiration ..or choke is sedated patients..and sudden death..owner will always deny it..but many of times its true..

    • Premal Darji did the cat vomit after xylazine or was it brought empty stomach..as it was in labour i suppose it was empty stomach..but xylazine causes vomition..sumtimes after the surgerys over..if cat not fully awake ..this vomit gets stuk on tracheal opening causing choke..such thing has happened to me once..but lukily cat was thr besides me..so cud immediately clear the pasage..all this can add to the possibilities..i m not casing its the only cause..
      02 August at 10:58 · ·

see naseemdude, xylazine half life is just 30 min in avg dogs and cats and 2-4 hrs taken for complete recovery in dogs and cats.any excess dose will show cns & rsp depression immediately. so xylazine may not be the cause. Open it up and do ...See more

      02 August at 16:23 · ·
    • Nassem N. Naimi the thing is she Got only ONE!!! and the kitten went out fine but the owner is caring for it and I don't know what happened for the kitten and I dont feel to call and ask as I am not ready for the bad answer :)
      02 August at 20:25 · ·
    • Ajay Kesarwani If bleeding is ruled out, hypothermia seems to be the most probable cause.
