Breeding- progesteron levels required for mating

Saurabh Saxena what is the normal serum progesterone level for the mating to be allowed in a bitch units(ng/ml)

      a beagle bitch 2yrs came to my clinic in morning ,with history of perioud starting on 15th june(as told by owner).did the test ,just now reports came which shows serum progesterone 0.05ng/ml.that means it requires another test after 5 days...See more

    • Nassem N. Naimi no brother more than 2 Ng that will mean she will ovulate after 24/48 hours so you can mate her every other day for 3 times :) to get the best results

      ‎@ Dr. Rahima And Dr. Naseem its not necessary that the pg levels will reach 2-3 ng/ml on 9th or 11th day. i have read that once the bitch was mated on 31st day of heat because the pg levels were not high till 31st day and she conceived.

      i dont see the need of progesterone testing on a regular basis when vaginal cytology is available. its a time tested, economic technique that is very helpful. i do progesterone testing only when the bitch is very costly.

    • Rahima Razak ya its common for the owners to miss the first two days... i read that the progesterone level maintains above 2.5 ng from from 8th to 12 th day.. so they tell 9th day and 11th day... because everytime testing and mating is very difficult...its just a crude method to do ...said and proved by many articles..but i do agree with u that vaginal cytology is must...
